Dook is the work of Helen Atherton, who lives and works near the sea in Portobello, Edinburgh. The name “dook” is Scots for “to dip, bathe, or plunge,” which perfectly captures the spirit of the brand: salt, water, skin, and the pleasure of a very good wash.
Each bar is made in small batches using organic ingredients, essential oils, natural colors, and mineral-rich salt. Helen began with traditional cold-process soapmaking, then added Himalayan salt to the recipe in 2018 and found the formula that became Dook’s signature: a hard-working bar with a distinctive creamy lather and a strong sense of place.
At Mercer, we love Dook because the ingredient story is genuinely interesting and the design is bold without losing its natural roots.
